Thesis topic
I would like to explore the connection between the show Breaking Bad and the book Catcher in the Rye and possibly relate the decisions the two main characters make and the personalities.
Possible Topic Ideas
I was thinking about writing about the portrayal of minorities in novels. I thought it would be interesting to write about The Hate U Give and possibly To Kill a Mockingbird or something like that. I'm not positive yet but I think this is a super important topic.
This sounds like a great topic. Walter White and Holden Caulfield are both iconic characters, so looking at what makes people relate to them and empathize with them would be interesting.

ReplyDeleteI never would have thought of connecting these two texts, but it's interesting to consider the ways that both Holden and Walter White challenge societal norms and essentially "break bad." While Holden is driven so much by the death of his brother, Walter is driven by his own impending death (and cancer diagnosis). There will likely be plenty of criticism on "Catcher" and some of it may relate well to "Breaking Bad." Would you focus on the entire series of "Breaking Bad" or just one season? It's something to think about...I'm excited to work on this with you!
ReplyDeleteBeing a fan of both the show and the book I think this would be an interesting thesis. Making connections with these two characters might be difficult but I think overall you have a solid idea here Harry. Can't wait to see how it goes.
